Environmental Monitoring Survey of Repowering Muara Karang Steam
Power Plant unit 1, 2, and 3

The Muara Karang Power Plant Unit is one of the PT. PJB power plant unit which are operated 5 units of Steam Power Plant (SPP) and 1 unit of Steam-Gas Power Plant (SGPP) Project. UP Muara Karang Power located on the north of DKI Jakarta, which on the East side of Karang River estuary is the Steam Power Plant Project units, while for the location of Gas Steam Power Plant is on the West side of Karang River estuary.

 

Muara Karang SPP Project is the steam power plant base on the Marine Fuel Oil (MFO) or usually called residue oil. There are 5 units of power station as follows: unit 1, 2, 3 has capacity up to 300 MW,for unit 4 and 5 each has power capacity up to 100 MW with total amount from both unit are 200 MW. Unit 1 is the oldest power plant which was builds in 1979.

 

Muara Karang power station play a major role to fulfill the Capital city of Jakarta requirement, especially the VVIP area such as President Palace and the MPR/DPR Building. Every year the U.P Muara Karang produce 7.900 GWh. That energy delivered by the 500 kV High Voltage Transmission to the Java-Bali Interconnection System.

 

To fulfill the increasing energy requirement, PT. PJB U.P Muara Karang is conducting the Repowering Muara Karang Steam Power Plant project for unit 1, 2, and 3.

 

The monitoring implementation on construction phase at the Muara Karang Steam Power Plant area and surrounding area is follow up of EMaP and EMoP of Repowering Muara Karang Steam Power Plant unit 1, 2 and 3 which been arranged in 2001.

 

Objective study for environmental monitoring survey of Repowering Muara Karang Steam Power Plant unit 1, 2, and 3 projects are as

follows:

  1. To assisst PLN in monitoring implementation of environment impact from the project activity on construction stage
  2. To collect data about environment hue at the location and surrounding, as substance for impact evaluation. The result will be used as input in management.
