About Water Resources Development
Indonesia has more than 5,000 rivers which about 600 of those are potentially flooding. Flood proned areas that are affected by those main rivers have reached 1.4 million hectares. The series of floods in a relatively short period of time and always repeated every year demanding greater efforts in order to anticipate and to minimize the loss.
With the very large potential of those rivers, the water availability in Indonesian mainland per capita per year is actually quite large, that is 15,500 m3. At first glance, it looks very large amount, however, water availability is not the same in each region, also its existence and its availability is strongly influenced by season.
